SHENZHEN MSU-BIT University (SMBU) convened a meeting to deliver its 2022 work report and deploy the following work in 2023 on April 6. The meeting was presided over by Xie Huanxin, director of SMBU’s administrative office. During the meeting, Ivanchenko Sergei, first vice rector of SMBU, announced the university’s decision to honor institutions with excellence awards. The awards for excellence for teaching and research went to the materials science, engineering and language departments, while those for administrative management went to the administrative, guaranteeing and student work departments. Li Hezhang, rector of SMBU, awarded the honors to representatives from the respective institutions. Li then delivered SMBU’s 2022 work report, comprehensively summarizing the university’s achievements in 2022 and deployed the following work in 2023. Li pointed out that in the previous year, SMBU held a ceremony to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the congratulatory messages sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin and organized its first knowledge, science and culture festival. The university also held the first collaborative conference where the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), the three parties responsible for SMBU’s operation, jointly participated in. Experts praised SMBU’s operation after the evaluation conducted by the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau in June 2022. According to Li, the university’s achievements were made possible by the contributions of the Chinese and Russian governments, the three parties operating SMBU and joint efforts from faculty and students. Li expressed his gratitude on behalf of SMBU’s leading group to all students and faculty. The report also reviewed the university’s work from eight perspectives, including building great disciplines and teaching teams, cultivating students, scientific research and social services. Li gave an in-depth analysis to SMBU’s current situation from four perspectives, namely identifying existing deficiencies and challenges, possible opportunities and outstanding advantages. He emphasized that SMBU must seek opportunities to enhance its educational quality. The general idea of the university’s work in 2023 is to carry out 34 measures to build a high-level university. The work report proposed that the university should make efforts to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and China in the new era and promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and building Shenzhen into a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In order to guarantee the implementation of the tasks in 2023, Li put forward the requirements in five aspects. First, is to clarify the main work, to focus on the in-depth study. SMBU should shoulder the responsibilities to plan the university’s development strategy, to plan the blueprint for the university’s development and to deepen Sino-Russian educational cooperation in the new era. The university should also promote building a community with a shared future for humankind and implement the strategy of scientific education while developing the university. Second, is to unite all parties of the university to strive for progress and try every effort to grab opportunities as well as to achieve solid results with a realistic and proactive work style. The university was asked to adhere to the attitude of “striving for progress, making progress and winning with quality.” Third, is to establish an improved working mechanism to give full play to the main role of departments, faculties and centers, and to play the role of all teachers and students. Fourth, is to develop and implement study and research plans, fully understand the importance of learning, grasp the focus of learning, master the learning methods and establish learning goals. Last, is to create a positive and entrepreneurial work ecology, a clean political ecology and a caring cultural ecology. Finally, Li called on the university’s faculty and students to fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and adhere to the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism With Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The university will keep in mind the high expectations of the two countries’ presidents, implement the resolutions of the tri-party meeting and the board of directors, and grasp the opportunity for development. The university will strive to create a new situation for Sino-Russian cooperation and make a new and greater contribution to the national and regional socioeconomic development. |
