Dear students, teachers, alumni, and friends, The year 2022 is arriving. On behalf of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU), we would like to extend our warmest greetings and best wishes to the dedicated and selfless teaching staff, to the students who live up to their dreams and youth ideals, and to alumni and friends from all walks of life who care and support the development of the school! The year 2021 is a milestone in the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China, and also a year of special significance in the history of China-Russian relations. The CPC celebrated its centenary and the grand accomplishment of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, as its first centenary goal. Loaded with vigor, it is leading the Chinese people on a new journey toward realizing the second centenary goal. The two heads of state of China and Russia announced the extension of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation via video link, and issued a joint statement, setting new goals and drawing up a new blueprint for bilateral relations. The year 2021 is a year of brilliant performance in the development of SMBU. Both Chinese and Russian teachers and students overcame obstacles, worked hard and made remarkable achievements in a variety of endeavors, and achieved a good start in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). In 2021, we further optimized our talent training mode, of which Sino-Russian joint elite education has yielded fruitful results. Four undergraduate majors passed the evaluation of bachelor’s degree granting rights with high quality, and three provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites were added. SMBU students won 11 high-level awards in international and domestic competitions and one finalist prize at the MCM/ICM. More than 580 students were enrolled throughout the year and there were over 1,300 students on campus. Among the first batch of 100 undergraduate graduates, 85 percent continued to study for master’s degrees, and the initial employment rate reached higher than 95 percent. In 2021, we further optimized the layout of disciplines and made breakthroughs in the development of key disciplines. Mathematics, materials, biology and economics were selected as the key disciplines in Guangdong Province’s new round of high-level university construction plan. In 2021, we further deepened cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Russia and continuously improved our ability to serve society. We successfully held a series of activities to celebrate the fifth anniversary of SMBU’s establishment and the 20th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, held 27 activities in 12 sections at the SMBU subvenue of the 17th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), set up a Russian language test center and a Chinese language test center, and started the construction of an affiliated kindergarten. Looking back, these accomplishments are the result of the three parties’ intense focus and laborious efforts to administer the university cooperatively, as well as the concerted efforts and hard work of all teachers and students. We would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude and sincere respect to the school board, teachers, students, alumni and friends from all walks of life! Since its establishment, SMBU has received the cordial care of the leaders of China and Russia and shoulders a major mission. At the starting point of a new journey, we will adhere to the expectations placed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin as the fundamental principle, take promoting high-quality development as the theme and reform and innovation as the driving force, bravely shoulder the national mission, and accelerate the high-level university construction. We will strive to serve the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation for the new era and regional economic and social development, make new contributions to deepening China-Russia educational cooperation and enhancing the friendship between the two peoples, and welcome the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC with outstanding performance!
